  2. Textiles is such a fascinating subject and it is very interesting to note that it occupies no.2 position after agriculture in employment. So it is employment provider to many.Let there be more awareness of the other factors such as pollution in textile industry due to dyes and chemicals which are sometimes carcenogenic and harm cattle and human beings.
so utmost care should be taken to treat the dye effluent before disposal into drain.

  3. What is our contribution to the Mother Earth on EARTH DAY.Do we simply continue to pollute ponds, lakes, rivers, wells and make lives of aquatic life miserable. We cut down fully grown ,green trees mercilessly and construct posh bunglows, apartments, resorts making a first class concrete jungle.

So we are occupying the homes, abodes of animal kingdom and make ourselves comfortable. When we sight a tiger, lion, elephant we make an impression that they are disturbing us.Infact we have driven them from their original homes and forcibly occupied.

We are merciless in our activities, life style, self centered and we are prepared to go to any extent.ECOLOGY is only for giving long, boring lectures as it is not followed in true sense.

Will our beloved Mother EARTH weep silently, slowly looking at what is happening aroun HER.

Why not let us pledge now atleast not to disturb nature, greenery, eco system. So respect nature to get respect from nature.I shall feel happy if atleast one gentleman/woman reads this comment and leaves a similar matching comment.

  4. Stop counting the calories.
DIET: Stressed about the number of calories you consume?.It could result in your gaining more weight.
If losing weight feels like a never ending battle, new research may explain why:Diets that restrict calories can actually make it harder to lose weight and keep it off.
Cutting calories increases production of cortisol, the stress hormone, which is linked to added belly fat,a new study finds.
"For the first time in humans,we found that cutting your calories increases cortisol,"said lead researcher A.Janet Tomiyama, the University of California,San Francisco."We think this may be one reason dieters tend to have a hard time keeping offin the longterm,"she said.
People who count calories feel stressed, she said, but it's the reduction in calories that increases cortisol, which,in turn, stresses the body and leads to weight retention.
"No matter how you cut calories, whether that's doing it on your own or with assistance,it doesn't matter,it's still going to increase your cortisol level,"she said.
For the study,Tomiyama's team randomly assigned 121 women to one of four diets. One group tracked their calories, keeping them to 1,200 a day;another group ate normally but recorded the number of calories they consumed;a third group ate 1'200 calories a day,but did not have to recordthem, and the fourth group ate normally without any calorie-tracking.

At the start and end of the threeweek trial, the researchers measured each woman's cortisol and stress levels. When calories were restricted, cortisol levels increased.Inaddition, calorie counting also increased the women's perceived stress, the researchers found.

  5. "The term 'dieting'brings to mind deprivation, starvation, being miserable and uncomfortable and ultimately failing in weightloss efforts,"Samantha Heller,a dietician, nutritionist and exercise physiologist familiar with the study, said.

  6. Burning more calories than you consume is how your body loses weight, she said."However, severe calorie restriction, diet fads, pills and potions, detox cleanses and other quacky approaches to weight loss only contribute to people's diet failures and,in fact, may increase the likelihood of regaining even more weight than what was lost- if any,"Heller added.
The best way to drop unwanted pounds is to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviours that include eating a variety of healthy foods, physical activity, patience and a game plan, she said.
"Many people want to lose weight and do not know how to begin.Creating a step-by-step plan is one piece of the puzzle a lot of people forego.Starting a weight-loss programme takes discipline, motivation and a desire to make behavioural changes and finding support can be very helpful,"Heller added.
Another expert,Dr.David L.Katz, director of the Prevention Research Centre at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, said while dieting isn't easy, certain strategies can help reduce stress and achieve a healthier lifestyle."Food itself, a reliable source of immediate gratification, may be used to relieve stress. When food intake is restricted, something else should replace it."

In general, dieting alone is not all that useful. But,"by eating foods of higher overall nutritional quality, fullness can generally be achieved on fewer calories, eliminating the need for deprivation,"Katz said."In addition, physical activity can accelerate weight loss, promote health and alleviate stress." - STEVEN REINBERG - NYT NEWS SERVICE.

  7. Spirituality and conciousness :
Every body leads a hard life and at one stage he/she want to take a path where you get real peace and tranquility. So that stage is called spiritual stage. You are diverting your thoughts and actions towards God and try to do meditation, breathing exercises, pranayama, surya Namaskara.Your attitude and life style change a lot from then on.

You sit with your mind concentrated on a image, photo, picture as you have to concentrate on a particular object.Slowly your mind starts to enjoy a eternal bliss. This bliss can not be expressed in words. It has to be felt by you, only you.So it proves that you came into this world alone and you leave alone. You do not carry anything from this world. So why we have attraction on material comforts which will never come with us.

So it is better to have a clear conciousness of spirituality.once you are concious about spirituality you will automatically spend most of your time, energy to focus on a object and concentrate on it for hours to gether. This stage is called Ananda means happiness. The more you get Ananda you concetrate more with the help of meditation.

Atlast you reach a stage where you get eternal peace and you really enjoy a typical happiness. This is called Paramananda. This state of mind is not so easily achieved as our fickle mind is always disturbed by various thoughts.Endless thoughts. So we have got to concentrate more with more severe meditation.Endless meditation brings endless meditation.

So meditation is the crucial step to achieve PARAMANANDA.Hope we take benefit of this sadhana.

  8. Tagore found painting to be another open medium for his creative mind

He was an accidental artist.Rabindranath Tagore is better known as a poet, novelist, musician and playwright, but as India begins year long celebrations of Gurudev's 150th birth anniversary,it was an exhibition of his paintings that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"He began painting when he was well into his 60s," noted Dr.Singh, speaking at the opening of "The Master's Strokes:Art of Rabindranath Tagore"exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art on sunday.

In fact,he did not even begin painting until long after he won the Noble Prize."What began as a poet subconciously joining his erasures,over-writings,corrections and doodles, gradually materialised into a unique form of art.Rabindranath came to enjoy the efforts and found painting to be yet another expressive medium for his restless, creative mind."

The government has planned a series of cultural and academic events to "rekindle public interest in Gurudev's rich cultural legacy and in his thoughts, ideals, teachings and values" over the course of this year, said the Prime Minister.

A national committee headed by Dr.Singh and including several Union Ministers,Chief Ministers,Scholars and experts has been set up to plan the celebrations, along with an implimentation committee to be headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

In the last 17 years of his life,Tagore made more than 3,000 paintings and drawings, most of which are at Visva - Bharati. The institution will publish a prestigious set of Tagore's paintings and drawings called the Chitravali, supported by the Union Ministry of Culture.

Along with the National Gallery of Modern Art,they are also preparing a grand exhibition of Tagore's paintings in Paris next year, the city where Tagore displayed his art for the first time in 1930.

Tagore hardly had any formal training in art,but "developed a highly imaginative and spontaneous visual vocabulary,"said the Prime Minister. For Tagore, "art was the bridge that connected the individual with the world at large,"he said.

  10. Indian - origin scientists were part of new cell research

Washington:Three Indian - origin scientists are part of a team that has for the first time created a synthetic cell, controlled by man - made genetic instructions, which can also reproduce itself.

The 24 - member team included Sanjay Vashee,Radha Krishnakumar and Prashanth P.Parmar.

"We call it the first synthetic cell," said genomics pioneer Craig Venter, who oversaw the project."These are very much real cells."

Developed at a cost of $30 million by the researchers at the J.Craig Venter Institute, the experimental one - cell organism opens the way to manipulation of life on a previously unattainable scale, the Wall Street Journal reported.

According to experts, scientists have been altering DNA piecemeal for many years, producing genetically engineered plants and animals, but the ability to craft an entire organism offers a new power over life.

However, the achievement, documented in the journal Science, may stir up nagging questions of the ethics, law and public safety about artificial life.

    Turning point

"This is literally a turning point in the relationship between man and nature,' said molecular biologist Richard Ebright at Rutgers University, who was not involved in the project.

"It has the potential to transform genetic engineering. The research is going to explode once you can create designer genomes,"said David Magnus,Director of the stanford university Center for Biomedical Ethics.

The new cell,a form of bacteria, was conceived solely as a demonstration project, though several biologists were certain that the laboratory technique used to birth it would soon be applied to other strains of bacteria with commercial potential, the paper said. - IANS

  12. NATURAL DYES :

There are many natural as well as vegetable dyes, especially in India. One of the well known and widely applied natural dye is Natural Indigo Dye.Indigo dye is applied on cotton yarn, fabric in the form of dyestuff liquid , paste as per the methods of application.

Let us see how this natural indigo is made from seeds, cultivation, extraction, cake making and applying on cotton yarn, woven, garment making, and export.

  13. NATURAL INDIGO :

Let us see from , how the seeds are obtained.Indigo seeds are available in market.I had visited Maya Bazar,Rajahmundry,Andhra Pradesh,India where seeds are sold in bulk. These seeds are in fact obtained from plants from Godavari Lankalu, where they are sold in bulk.

People purchase these seeds , in bulk and sow the seeds.I had visited some plantations in Tamil Nadu.

    Let me continue later on.

    Thanks.

  14. NATURAL DYE --- INDIGO

In Tamil Nadu , there are places where indigo seeds are sown in many number of acres , at places in and around Pondicherry,Tindivanam , Cuddalore . I had visited a small village by name KONGARAPATTU , which is on the way from Tindivanam to Gingee , in Tamil Nadu. Here the seeds are sown , and the crop when full grown is cut from above the ground level.

The plants are put in a tank containing water , exposed to direct sun light , the indigo slowly dissolves into water and after a few days, the water becomes very thick , just as you add sugar to water , the water becomes thick, similarly , indigo solution is ready for cake making.Cakes are cut in small square shape , and dried and kept carefully.

These cakes are tested for purity of indigo , which decides its value in dyeing process. These cakes are made into a very fine powder , by fine grinding.Indigo powder is sold in the form of packets and dyers buy these indigo powder packets.

Natural Indigo is very safe, eco friendly , and has its own distinct shade of blue, after dyeing.

After dyeing the cotton yarn , weaving is done , then the woven fabric is made into garments.

The garments are Jeans and they are exported to US , Germany , Europe , Australia just to name a few destinations.

So much is the value of Natural Indigo , as the garments are very safe, harmless to skin, eco friendly.

Ofcourse , India is a great source of Natural Dyes , and it is only the interest , potential of customers on one hand and suppliers on the other hand makes this exercise a permanent business.

What exactly is the success to Natural Indigo project ?.

    a).Selection of Natural Indigo Seeds.

    b).Correct soil, for plantation.

c).Indigo dye extraction, cake making, perfect maintainance of purity of dyestuff.

d).Selection of quality yarn , for dyeing.

    e).Expert weaving to Garments .

f).Meeting all International Quality standards, with out any compromise at all,at any stage.

g).Meeting the exact requirements of buyers , by Exporters , always.

h).Perfect packing, forwarding ,meeting delivery schedules , on the dot .

with all the above if taken care of sincerely, devotedly, unitedly there is vast scope for Natural Indigo and its application in India.
